On a grey day the red and blacks played the opposition off the green. Up to the 34th minute we were only in front 8-0, due mainly to the irritating stop start nature of proceedings. The rugby had little chance to flow as the referee punished every error, however slight, in the book. The merry whistleblower blasted his pea no less than 148 times in the match! Not wishing to put the club on the wrong side of the referees' union I will draw no conclusions! Meanwhile back at the game, Mods lit up the remaining minutes of the first half to enter the break 22-0 to the good. Aireborough pulled a try back in the 46th minute following a series of uncharacteristic errors by the home team. 22-7. It took us a while to recover the upper hand but when we did Aireborough were put to the sword with 31 points in the last twenty minutes; a fine individual effort from Sam Lloyd (intercepting 65 metres out) being the highlight.
A fine performance from the whole team built around an immense performance by the pack. It is a long while since I've seen a Mods' second string with so much first team potential.
Man of the match awarded to Phil Gray, narrowly pipping Sam Tee with all the other forwards within spitting distance.
