Mods. survived a tense tussle and despite the wet, windy, dry and sunny conditions managed to play some quality rugby. The first half provided only a penalty for the 35 specs. to applaud and we were down 3-8 at the interval. Regular breaks up the hill by Clive Rankin and Barry Clipsham gave us much hope for the downhill second half. Numbers 7 and 4 had a strong first period and the scrum half excelled in both attack and defence. It was unfortunate when he had to retire injured in the 48th minute. His replacement, Mark Gilmore, scooted in for our first try in the 65th minute and in the 76th minute Mark Gilfoyle chased a long cross kick by Wally collecting the bouncing ball five yards from the line and winning the short sprint for a clinching touchdown.
