The following report has been provided by Paul Male who played Mods' 1st XV in the 70's and who still turns out for Boston (no not Lincolshire) and on a trip over here guested for Otley last weekend. Anybody who knows Paul may be interested to know he is coming up to the Mods on another trip to these shores sometime in April. Watch this space.
Mods thirds played very well, their young pack held the wily old veterans even though they were outweighed by a lot to a little - it eventually came down to a missed penalty kick by Mods a minuite from time - very unfortunate to hit the post. If the Mods had really spun the ball out and made us old gits really run we would have been in desperate shape by the second half - however the Otley cover defense and red zone tackling was solid and I think suprised a few of our younger visitors.

After two penatlies (one in each half) Otley led 6-0, Mods howeverkept up their youthful approach and scored a deserved try 10 mins from time, this set up the exciting finish, and luckily the ball hit the post and bounced out.

On balance a draw would have been a fair result. The Mods scrum half had avery good game - unfortunately he tried to run through some far heavier (some would say fat) opponents who managed to stop him only inches from the line. He looked amazed when I told him I used to play with Ian Armitage in the 70's.

I will be over in late April and want to make sure I get to buy you a pint
