Match report It was something like 31-0 to unbeaten, table-toppers Hessle when the bitterly frozzed wind had eaten through my six layers of clothing, forcing me home for hot tea and comfort-eating. Only losing 7-0 at the break gave some cause for optimism but playing uphill towards the low sun and into the jaws of a cold gale kept the optimism to a minimum. When Hessle scored early in the second half it crossed my mind it wouldn't be necessary; it was unlikely we were going to register any points in the conditions, against a team as well drilled, fit and skilled as Hessle were. Their pack was aggressive and dominant; their stand off unrushed and commanding, without being young and slim; their backs strong and full of running. Mods' men will bring tales of mini battles won, to the bar this evening but none will deny that as a team we were second best in the second half. Conje.
