Here is the match report and scores: Final Score Baildon 0 Old
Modernians 27..16/10/04

A fresh faced Mods side travelled to the many hills of Baildon to what
annually has always been a 'tough' trip. Burgin and his 17 men lined up
full of confidence following a solid performance against a well drilled and
committed Burley XV. The game started quickly and it was soon apparent that
Connor 'Sicknote' Wilkinson was not able to carry on after 4 mins and 41
seconds (Phil Gray was this weeks Wilko sweep stake with 11 minutes) and on
came Dave Wadd with plenty to prove. Some lovely interchanges and excellent
recycling of the ball saw Mods score after 25 minutes Dave Wadd crashing
over after a well timed pass inside from Sam Tee, Beeforth converted. Then
came steady pressure from Baildon which lead to the tackle of the match
from the rejuvenated Neil Beeforth, followed by excellent scrambling
defence from the centre pairing of James Towse and Tim Anderson, the ball
was cleared and the threat was over. Back came the Mods again with a good
run down the flank by skipper Adam Burgin after a miss-guided line out fell
straight into his hands which again lead to an excellent passage of play
that resulted in Baildon being penalised in front of their own posts,
Beeforth stepped up and converted the penalty.

Half Time 0-10

The second half resumed in similar fashion, Mods on the attack, some clever
play from the stand off Neil Brown and the inside centre Tim Anderson saw
the Mods creep uphill into Baildon's half, next came the most extraordinary
try of the season this far, Neil Beeforth received the ball from the bottom
a ruck well won by Pete O' Donnell and Jim Livermore and decided to have a
pop at a drop goal, the ball did not have enough power and fell short
hitting the bar and rebounding back in to play, Beeforth had followed up
his attempt and the ball bounced kindly in to his hands, thank you try to
Mods..! The conversion was missed by Beeforth. Baildon then had there best
passage of play where they camped on the Mods line for what seemed like an
age but was only actually about 5 minutes, the Mods defence was rock solid,
there was no way their line was going to be broken, the ball was cleared
and the danger was over. The Mods then never looked back and were dominant
in all play, they scored 2 further tries one from a quick line out that saw
Scott Smith score in the opposite corner and then on debut Sam Lloyd who
had replaced Ian Brown on the wing broke a tackle after some excellent play
by Man of the Match Tim Anderson to score near the posts, converted by Neil
Beeforth.

An all round solid performance from an impressive Mods 2nd XV with many of
the players knocking on the door of the 1st XV, keep the performance and
effort rates up, and the Merit League title will almost certainly be
heading to the Mods outfit.
Thanks Burge.
